In 1994 Universal Pictures resurrected The Shadow a property that is almost 100 years old now to see if it could be the next super hero franchise. It didn't hit with audiences then but in black and white it deserves a serious reevaluation. Directed by Russell Mulcahy with a visual flair that he brought from his music video background. I 100% need their version of this movie. This is some top-tier b&w correction. Seriously. So much attention not only to the values but the hues (b&w film still has hues in its values that are distinct!) A lot of that is also on the DP who clearly still shot this for B&W.
The fact that they didn't allow this film to be black and white when it looks this good is tragic. I'd love to watch this again in a noir context it deserves.
I saw this in the theater as a kid and was mesmerized by it. I actually never really understood why it wasn't better received. It’s a genuinely fun movie.

There's definitely something very classic-feeling about #TheShadow in grayscale, and it even seems to add some weight to some of the less-than-stellar visual effects. Maybe when this title finally gets some 4K treatment, Mulcahy can remix it for B&W like they'd wanted from the start.
