This episode of China's Warlord Era is on the 1st Zhili/Fengtian War of 1922 The Zhili Clique led by Wu Peifu and the Fengtian Clique led by Zhang Zuolin had defeated and overthrown the Anhui Clique during the Zhili-Anhui War of 1920. Now Wu Peifu and Zhang Zuolin dominated the Beiyang government, but they both sought to monopolize that power. The fragile alliance between the Zhili and Fengtian Clique underwent the test of time and soon both sides were mobilizing for war against another. The Fengtian Clique was backed by Japan, while the Zhili Clique had help from other western powers such as Italy. The game of thrones over the Dragon Throne in Beijing would rage on until one man would re-unify China.
