‘More terrifying than death’: Families in Gaza suffer extreme cold living in tents during winter

“You want to sleep and you hear the sound of children coughing a strange cough that we’re hearing for the first time in Gaza - the sound of teeth grinding as children can’t sleep from the cold.” Yousef Awadallah, a Palestinian in Gaza, describes the conditions of living in tents as displaced families, including his, face bitterly cold temperatures during winter. Awadallah showed the poor condition of the tents due to extreme weather conditions while highlighting that many displaced families don’t even have tents to take shelter. An Al Jazeera report revealed that eight babies died from hypothermia in the Gaza Strip as temperatures plummeted this past month.
