Dikaryon: Segment 1

Segment 1 is taken from Events, the debut by Dikaryon, a 90 minute concept album designed for listening with headphones. The album finds inspiration from the movement of the tectonic plates and convection currents beneath the Earths crust, which cause earthquakes and volcanoes. A natural metaphor reflecting the current state of uncertainty, instability and resulting violence in the world. The album consists of soundscapes, improvised and recorded directly to hard drives in single sessions. Equipment used included analog electronics, a Doepfer synthesizer, guitars, and manipulated field recordings. Noise and distortions generated by the instruments have been intentionally incorporated into the aesthetics of each track capturing imperfections, along with the interplay and tensions between digital and analog technologies, revealing their capabilities, limitations, and fault lines. Roderick Pearce - electric guitar and processing tracks 1,3 Dean Reynolds - all other sounds The resulting recordings were then transferred on to a 1976 TEAC (A3340S) reel-to-reel tape deck and mastered through a Platinum Analog studio VCA, edited, mixed and produced by Eszen.
