The original version of this by Iron Maiden is fantastic, with that lead guitar riff played an octave higher than I play it here, starting at the 12th fret and descending all the way down the finger board. The bass player plays a slightly different but complimentary scale. Marvellous. But I love the fact that with this heavy rock ballad, if you quieten and slow it down like this it reveals a superbly written (poetic even) story song with meaningful passionate lyrics. We have a story of a hard rock musician who simply misses his home and his girl. Thank you Iron Maiden. I love this song. And as always, thank you for listening 🙂🎸 Update September 2023, here is a link to my Tutorial for this version of Wasted Years:- https://youtu.be/jCpCWZ2KqTc?si=lfnyvuLWEd59l8PM
