‘Without journalism you have no democracy’: Nobel Prize winner Maria Ressa’s warning

The relationship between big tech and journalism has grown increasingly complex, exemplified by the impact of Jeff Bezos’ ownership of the Washington Post, leading to the resignations of several longtime Post staffers. Nobel Peace Prize winning journalist, Maria Ressa says it’s a “very difficult time for journalism in America,” and that the pressure to compromise to power “will always come.” Drawing from her experience as a journalist in the Philippines and enduring harassment under Rodrigo Duterte’s government, Ressa cautions Americans that “without journalism, you have no democracy.” » Subscribe to MSNBC: https://www.youtube.com/msnbc » Subscribe to MSNBC on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@msnbc » Subscribe to MSNBC on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/msnbc Download our new MSNBC app for the latest breaking news and daily headlines at a glance: https://www.msnbc.com/information/download-msnbc-app-n1241692 Follow MSNBC Show Blogs MaddowBlog: https://www.msnbc.com/maddowblog ReidOut Blog: https://www.msnbc.com/reidoutblog MSNBC delivers breaking news, in-depth analysis of politics headlines, as well as commentary and informed perspectives.
