Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau has announced he’s resigning as leader of the Liberal party, after 9 years in charge. He will stay on as prime minister until his replacement is announced, and parliament has been prorogued until March. He’s faced mounting pressure from within his party and elsewhere to step down. His poll numbers, as well as his government’s, have been disastrous for years. The Liberals are now well behind Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives.
