Ukraine destroys with HIMARS Russian train with 40 tanks of fuel worth $4m

Ukrainian forces have destroyed a Russian train with 40 tanks of fuel worth $4 million in Zaporizhzhia region on Saturday, December 14. The operation to destroy the train was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine, SBU, together with the Defense Forces, and was aimed to cut off the logistics of fuel supplies from Russian-annexed Crimea to the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation began with the 13th Main Directorate of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SBU organizing sabotage to destroy railroad tracks while a train with tanks was moving near the village of Olekseevka in the Bilmak district. The explosion derailed the train and some of the tanks caught fire. At this point, Tavria HIMARS and MLRS came into play. The missiles hit the locomotive and the outermost carriages, preventing Russians from stretching to the tanks and saving some of the fuel. In addition to the destruction of 40 tank cars and the locomotive, an important railway line that supplied Russian troops was also put out of action for a long time. Ukraine has been bracing for a potential Russian offensive its south-eastern Zaporizhzhia region and has been stepping up its defences in this part of the frontline.
