This set up ended in 1952 when older brother George was drafted into the army. After his discharge George moved to Los Angeles. The other Chambers brothers soon settled there as well. As a foursome, they began performing gospel and folk throughout the Southern California region in 1954, but they more or less remained unknown until appearing in New York City in 1965. Also in 1965, Brian Keenan joined the group as their drummer. "People Get Ready" was a 1965 single by The Impressions, and the title track from the album of the same name. The Chambers Brothers cut this track for their hit album "The Time has Come" I worry that this music, which is so uplifting spriritually, is being spoiled by the believers who want to mix religion with politics and affairs of the state. I am reminded of some very interesting observations of a very knowledgable man who said: "Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them." ***Republican United States Senator (Arizona) and 1964 presidential candidate BARRY GOLDWATER
