That’s billions of dollars in lost sales for U.S. alcohol producers. And guess what? The Americans are absolutely losing it over this move. The governor of Kentucky? Freaking out. Mitch McConnell? Probably pulling his hair out right now. Why? Because Kentucky is home to bourbon, and Ontario, where the LCBO operates, is one of their biggest customers. And for those who don’t know, potash is a huge deal because it’s the key ingredient in fertilizer. Right now, 87% of Canada’s potash goes straight to the U.S. without any issues. They could try to get potash from elsewhere, sure, but good luck moving it up the Mississippi River when all of it has to come from Canada.
