Europe's climate monitor Copernicus confirmed that 2024 was the warmest year on record. A new report from the service shows last year's heat topped that of 2023, the previous record holder. 2024 was also the first calendar year more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels - the threshold scientists warn significantly increases the impacts of climate change. Scientists link the record heat to dozens of extreme weather events last year - devastating floods in Spain, crippling drought across Brazil and South America, and powerful typhoons and cyclones that battered parts of Asia. The extremes are forecast to continue into 2025 and scientists are urging immediate action to avert worst-case scenarios. #ClimateChange #ClimateData #Copernicus For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ For more news, analysis and background information on the German election 2025 go to our dedicated page: https://www.dw.com/en/german-election-2025/t-70794502 Follow DW on social media: ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dwnews ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1
📺 "The 1.5°C limit is not something we can let go," says PIK scientist Kirsten Thonicke to DW News. "We need to make sure that we stay well below 2°C of global warming." Every fraction of a degree matters, "as it means we can still reduce impacts." 👇 www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HQa...

So sad seeing how people inside the US will be embracing misinformation and missing the truth.

THIS 👇 should have been front & center during the presidential campaign. An issue this critical becomes the center of any candidate's campaign when journalists ask - & keep asking - the really important questions & refuse to be defeated by deflection & obfuscation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HQa...
