Did Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, really prop up Hamas with Qatari aid grants? In part three of this series on the true history of the Hamas movement’s foundations and affiliations with Israel, MintPress staff writer Robert Inlakesh tackles the various claims regarding the Israeli PM’s use of cash grants to prop up the Hamas movement in Gaza. This assertion, similar to the narratives tackled in the first two parts of this series, leaves out key context which ends up painting an incomplete picture and fails to accurately depict the relationship between Israel and Hamas. While Qatari aid money was indeed sent to Gaza in suitcases, there is no confirmation that it was used to help prop up Hamas, but rather aid them in their governance of Gaza. Divisions between Hamas and Fatah, splitting the West Bank from Gaza, have been longstanding and extend back to 2006, when Benjamin Netanyahu was out of the picture. While there are grains of truth to all three narratives tackled in this three part series - covering whether Hamas was really founded by Israel; its relevance to the collapse of the Oslo Process; and whether it was really propped up by Netanyahu - the black and white narrative often depicted in the corporate media and by popular pundits, misses key context.
