It saw the hight of it's successes during the late 1960s and 1970s. In this video we examine why Ostpolitik began to fail. How an emphasis in German foreign policy on markets undermined political initiatives of further exchange. How a hyperfixation with Russia ended up being a German self-sabotage that made building closer relations with Central European countries harder. How delusions of grandeur self-styling Germany as the leader of Europe ended up alienating Germany in Europe. And how Germany failed to participate in the European integration process driven between countries like Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic.
