But I'm wondering, do you think there's any chance all the Democratic members of the Senate will hammer the issue of Trump pardoning the January 6 rioters? My thinking is, the Republicans use fear effectively, and the Democrats could do the same. Fear actually breaks through to the corporate news because fear sells. Trump has essentially created his own "Brown Shirts." Now, people who were too afraid to join groups like the Proud Boys because they didn’t want to go to jail know they have a "get out of jail free" card. So, I’m thinking, if every Democratic senator, in mass, came out and pounded this issue—day after day—highlighting how dangerous this is for our democracy, do you think there's any chance of that happening? Or do you think the Democratic Party will just let it run through the normal news cycle and worry about it later? Thom: What would the line be? I mean, are you saying, "Trump just organized his own Brown Shirts"? We don’t have direct evidence of that other than his pardoning of the rioters. Caller: I would say the time for holding back is long gone. I’m in Illinois, and I called Senator Durbin and Senator Duckworth. I told them the time for holding back has passed. They need to stand out there in mass—all of them. I’m talking about borrowing some political theater from the Republicans. They should stand on the steps of the Capitol, every Democratic senator, and go out there every day, raising alarms about how scary this is. Trump has essentially created his own Brown Shirts. Most people don’t realize how much evidence there was against the January 6 rioters. It was absolutely massive. But the mainstream media hasn’t focused on it because it angers Republicans. People who don’t listen to this station aren’t aware of how serious it was—it’s just vanished. Thom: I see your point. It’s hard to break through the corporate media. But if the entire Senate came together on the Capitol steps to warn about this every day, maybe it could get through. Caller: Exactly. The Democratic senators need to take action. Thom: I don’t think it’s a matter of will. I think what might break through, unfortunately, is when one of these militia groups actually acts on this. For example, in Hungary, Viktor Orbán has militia groups that target Romani neighborhoods—what we used to call the "Gypsies," though that’s now considered pejorative. These groups beat people up or burn them out of their homes. If something like that happens here, it could be a wake-up call. Caller: But haven’t we already seen them marching through streets in some cities? Thom: Those were performances. I’m talking about actual violence. When that happens, the conversation will change.
