SANDUSKY, Ohio – Sandusky police arrested a 23-year-old man who is accused of vandalizing a city underpass with Nazi and white supremacist graffiti in May and vandalizing Shoreline Park in February. He also took photos and videos, which he published on various websites, including on 4chan. Austin Rogers is being held in the Erie County Jail on two counts of vandalism, fifth degree felonies. “This is not going to be tolerated,” said Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver. “Saturday it was reported to us there was hate speech and swastikas spray painted on the underpass on Columbus Avenue. Our officers responded and saw several areas of the underpass that had been vandalized.” Crews from the city street department were called to the area immediately and removed the graffiti. Detectives took pictures of the graffiti and started investigating. “It is his pattern of behavior and it is unacceptable,” Oliver said. “We will continue to arrest him if he is going to continue to do this.” Rogers recently entered a guilty plea to an ethnic intimidation charge. He was arrested on that charge in September. In that case, police say he left bags containing rice and fliers with racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic language on porches of homes in a couple different Sandusky neighborhoods. He also entered guilty pleas to two counts of menacing by stalking in an unrelated case. He is expected to be sentenced on those three charges May 29. “We are looking forward to the day the court sentences him for this behavior,” the chief said. Rogers is allegedly responsible for many crimes — including stalking, vandalism along with several acts of prejudice — recently pleaded guilty to some of these incidents. Sentencing information for Austin J. Rogers, 23, is not yet known. Video Chapters: 00:00 Intro 01:20 Officer documenting the vandalism - Bodycam - (E. Authorities said Rogers threatened to harm a child and actively stalked this youth. Rogers' attorney originally, in November 2022, filed a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. At that time, the case was not resolved. More recently, Rogers pleaded guilty to two counts of menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony. Two other counts of menacing by stalking were dismissed. Incident No. 2 In September 2023, authorities arrested Rogers for allegedly placing fliers containing racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic language on porches of homes in at least two Sandusky neighborhoods. Rogers pleaded guilty to one count of ethnic intimidation, a fifth-degree felony. In exchange for his plea, three other counts, including possession of criminal tools, felonious assault and aggravated menacing, were dismissed. Incident No. 3 As of May 5th, Rogers remains locked up in the Erie County Jail on two vandalism charges, both felonies for allegedly spray-painting Nazi and white supremacist imagery on a city underpass earlier this year. He's also accused of committing a similar act at Shoreline Park. His bond was listed at $15,000. He was arrested on July 12th, and once again booked into the Erie County Jail for an unknown probation violation. https://sanduskyregister.com/news/524646/man-takes-plea-deals-in-cases/ https://fox8.com/news/i-team/man-accused-of-vandalizing-underpass-with-nazi-graffiti-faced-similar-charges-in-past/ ⚠️THIS VIDEO WAS LAWFULLY OBTAINED UTILIZING THE OHIO PUBLIC RECORDS ACT ; Section 149.43 of the Ohio Revised Code. - IT IS STRICTLY FOR INFORMATIONAL & EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.
