The late, great 60’s legendary singer, Trini Lopez, captured here live and unplugged at Cal State University by director/videographer, Chip Miller. This concert excerpt is a traditional version of the classic “Cielito Linda.” Grammy winner Lopez, who passed away in 2020 from Covid, appeared at Cal State University for a full house of university big brass, selected students, and Palm Springs celebrities, the late Barbara Sinatra, wife of Frank; actress Ruta Lee; singer Jack Jones; and actress Lindsay Wagner. Trini shared his colorful life and performed some hit songs, accompanied only by his iconic Gibson guitar. Miller spontaneously retrieved a broadcast HD camera from his studio production van, set it up in the hall, did a fast sound mix, and recorded, unplanned and unrehearsed. Miller chose subtle camera moves during the one hour of storytelling, Q & A, and musical performances. The camera basically became an audience member with a great seat. And Trini demonstrated that his musical and singing chops were still intact. Previously Miller directed Trini in a PBS TV Concert Special, “The Kingston Trio Celebration.” He was a guest artist along with Timothy B. Schmit (The Eagles), Al Jardine (The Beach Boys), Barry McGuire (New Christy Minstrels), The Limeliters, Henry Diltz (Modern Folk Quartet), and a final historic appearance by Trio founder, Bob Shane, who passed away in 2020. Miller also directed Trini's very first official music video for his hit, "Fly Like an Eagle," still airing on MTV Europe, Telemundo, and FNX Channel’s AUX series.
