We don’t have anything formal yet, but what happened was Jodey Arrington, the Republican Congressman from Texas, who is on the House Budget Committee (I believe he’s the chair, though I might be wrong), apparently released a document. Politico obtained this document, detailing what the House Budget Committee is planning to cut, where the cuts will happen, and how they plan to pay for tax breaks for Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Donald Trump, and other billionaires. Here’s the list: They want to repeal major Biden health rules. This is expected to save $420 billion. They plan to eliminate mandatory staff minimums in nursing homes, end prohibitions against discrimination in Affordable Care Act plans, and undo increased protections for people with disabilities. They also aim to eliminate new network requirements for psychological services. These measures are expected to save $400 billion. They claim they want to "strengthen Medicare for seniors," saving nearly half a trillion dollars. This will involve eliminating funding for uncompensated care and bad debt. Currently, Medicare reimburses hospitals that provide care to uninsured, poor patients. Cutting this funding will mean hospitals won’t serve uninsured patients, leading to more deaths and the closure of rural and small hospitals, especially in poorer neighborhoods. They plan to "make Medicaid work for the most vulnerable," cutting $2.3 trillion. This includes implementing per-capita caps on Medicaid reimbursements, which would cut nearly $918 billion. They also want to "equalize Medicaid payments for able-bodied adults," a euphemism for denying Medicaid to people who are unemployed. This would save $690 billion. Essentially, if you can’t get a job, you lose Medicaid, and once you get a job, you no longer qualify—a classic Catch-22. They want to "reimagine the Affordable Care Act," making $11 billion in cuts. Are you noticing a trend? All these cuts target programs that help average and poor Americans, particularly in healthcare. They plan to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund, saving $5 billion, and cut $151 billion from the Affordable Care Act. They also want to "end cradle-to-grave dependence," which involves: Reducing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) by 10%, saving $6 billion. Eliminating the TANF contingency fund, which costs $6 billion. Reforming the Thrifty Food Plan, which would cut $270 billion by reducing food stamp benefits. They propose reversing Biden’s climate policies. This includes: Eliminating the electric vehicle (EV) mandate and green energy grants, saving $460 billion. Ending the student loan bailout, saving $200 billion. Cutting $32 billion from federal employee benefits. Ending $200 billion in green energy tax credits. Finally, they want to eliminate the child tax credit for people on Social Security.
