Filmmakers rarely give audiences assertive female characters that stand up to men. In Nine to Five (1980), a comedy and feminist classic co-written by Patricia Resnick, sexism and men’s blameworthy behaviour are two of the main themes and women stand up to men in a few scenes. In this scene Jane Fonda stands up to her ex-husband when he drops by uninvited (she and her friends have sequestered their boss in his home until they can neutralize him). It scores very well for women’s presence and voice and is full of congeniality between women. For more videos that explore assertiveness in female characters, subscribe to this channel. I do not own the rights to this video. It is for entertainment purposes only. The rights likely belong to Twentieth Century Fox and/or IPC Films.
