Trump supporters outside the DC Jail celebrated news that Trump ordered the release of all January 6 defendants - who he called “hostages” - on Monday night, his first in office, and that some around the country had already reportedly already been processed for release. Some counter-protesters arrived at the scene as Trump supporters became increasingly agitated that their comrades weren't promptly released. MPD pushed back the crowd as they approached the front entrance. Paul Ingrassia, a liaison from the White House, arrived and reported to the crowd that only two January 6ers, the Valentin brothers of Pennsylvania, had been released. In fact, these were the only two at the DC jail who had been tried and convicted. The rest are pre-trial, and thus remain detained until the DOJ formally drops their charges, which President Trump has instructed them to do.
