For the first year, the world watched on as Russian forces grappled with an opponent they seemingly underestimated. The Ukrainians proved they would not give up their sovereignty without a fight. With aid from the West, Ukraine held the Russian forces, and gained back ground. On the second anniversary we look back at the last 12 months. It was the battles away from the fronts that would truly test the resolve of both sides. It was a year of fighting for aid and for armaments. Fighting for the world’s attention as another conflict would draw their eyes.
