Greenlanders are set to vote in a general election on Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump said he wanted to acquire the Danish territory for a geopolitical strategic advantage. Trump reiterated his interest in acquiring Greenland — a vast, mineral-rich island in the Arctic — during his address to Congress on March 4. He reaffirmed this interest once again in a Truth Social post early Monday. Prime Minister Mute Egede has repeatedly asserted that Greenland, with a population of just 57,000, should decide its future, advocating full independence for the territory. A candidate from his Inuit Ataqatigiit party noted that recent developments had "turned everything upside down". "We are Greenlanders and we don’t want to be Danes, and we certainly don’t want to be Americans," Liv Aurora Jensen said.
