Roberta Sherwood - YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE (1964)

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Rotate 5003) Out of New York, this 1964 release takes the the 1939 composition into a somewhat 'blue-eyed soul' territory. The career of Ms. Sherwood is extraordinary in that she didn't really appear on the pop music radar until she was at the age of 43 in 1956. On 'You Are My Sunshine' (which although labeled as the 'B-side', it is the stronger of the two sides) she's a wailing 51 year old delivering quite a convincing and on-fire vocal performance. The production is a gradual builder complete with a soulful ensemble of female background singers and Roberta riding up above the big, brassy Charles Fox arrangement.
