In troubled times such as these, it is important to maintain a positive attitude despite adversity, and we do that by standing together, united, supporting each other. That is the message of this song. My home studio video of this song that I recorded and posted 2 days before the 2024 US election rapidly became the most watched video of my channel's almost 700 videos. At over 43 thousand views, it now accounts for roughly 10% of my total view count. Since that time, I have written an additional new stanza that responds to the change in circumstances following that election, and makes explicit what I said at the beginning of this video description. This live performance was the public debut of this most recent version of the song, with its new stanza in the middle. The new added lyrics are: "You may think you've won now, and that we're wearing losers' shoes. But when we stand united, all we'll lose will be these blues! You're bound to lose, you fascists, bound to lose!" The song itself is an 80 year old Woody Guthrie song from the World War II era, updated by me to reflect the world of today. I admit to finding it somewhat shocking that a topical song written several years before I was born is suddenly very relevant again less than 2 months before I turn 76. I'm joined here on completely unrehearsed vocal harmonies by the sisters Claire and Laura Latendresse, who are members of the trio that were the Featured Performers at that evening's Yellow Door Hootenanny, which I host weekly in downtown Montréal. We are also joined here by many members of the audience singling along. This was the evening's closing song on 10 January 2025, at the first Yellow Door Hootenanny of 2025.
